"Takuro Spirit" (takurospirit)

Guy called this morning about a Crossfire.
I know, I had forgotten they existed too.
Apparently there is a tool to remove the cover from the front tow hook access (and defeat the neutral safety switch, and manually lower the top) that was missing from his. Naturally, I found it in the catalog within seconds because I AM A PARTS MASTER.... And its literally $180.00
Its literally a glorified screw driver.
For $180.00

My son’s hockey coach has the SRT version. He has a decent mix of cars, ‘92 M5, ‘98 V70R, and the Crossfire. The Crossfire is the garage queen, as I’ve rarely seen it at the rink.

I hope it's plastic to make that $180 seem like even more of a ripoff.

I’m reasonably sure I can fashion something similar with a blowtorch and some extreme cursing. I will only charge $100.

You could corner the market on Crossfire “Emergency Keys”! I bet there’ll be FLOCKS of owners at your door.

It’s crazy how much some small parts cost. Take a Vauxhall Corsa D. You can buy the car from as little as a few hundred pounds.
A new front bumper with grille is only £60.
Yet the chromed plastic badge is £120.

The SRT version is the one WITHOUT active aero. Ask me how I know.

To anyone who ever questions how this car is related to the Mercedes SLK, just say "$180 SCREWDRIVER" and settle the bet.

Our body shop has a newer Grand Cherokee in.
Front bumper cover? $250.00
The lower grille? $727.00
WAT.

Oh! How do you like it? There is a very reasonably priced one for sale near me and I am debating giving them a call about it. It would be my DD if I were to pull the trigger. White, coupe, auto, low mileage.

It’s like they play with a calculator pressing random buttons with some ‘-’, ‘+’ and ‘x’ thrown in here and there. You know how Lawyers calculate what you owe and politicians calculate there expenses, same way.

Its been my DD for over 3 years and 70k miles, now at 160,000 miles. I’ve only done basic maintenance to thing except for the ignition, which is my only warning. Its an expensive Benz part and if you wait until it finally doesnt work like I did, it’ll cost you $1200. If the key is “sticky” negotiate the price down.
Other than that go test drive it and see if you like it.

AHHHH I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT. SHOOT.
Active aero just seems like the more expensive option, thus on the SRT, but IT IS NOT SO. Thank you.

It’s stuff like this that makes me glad to have access to a 3D printer.
Hype aside, you can run off a copy of the oddest widgets, if they’re small and not load-bearing. Just browse Thingiverse, maybe look for “Datsun” and find adapters for old map lights, or redesigned window gearing.
Heck, I first learned about 3D printing from a Jay Leno column where they reproduced a plastic part for one of his wonderful cars.

I’d imagine a tire iron would work quite well for that
